Ah Saint Patrick’s Day, that unmissable event celebrated every year by millions of people all over the world and that I miss every time. This year, I’m not going to be fooled! I prepare myself in advance. For a change from green beer, I opted for a good sangria full of vitamins with pinot gris. If you like it sweet, don’t hesitate to opt for an aperitif wine for a sangria with Irish colours.

Although this day is dedicated to the patron saint Patrick and celebrates the establishment of the Christian church in Ireland, it is mainly an opportunity to go to the pub and share a drink with friends. It is a public holiday in Ireland.

Every 17 March, in many Anglo-Saxon countries, parades are organized to mark the event. People dress in green, the colour that symbolizes Ireland and gets ready to welcome the spring that they are looking forward to with joy and good humour. But if you see a leprechaun, it’s time to go home. Cheers… in moderation!

A sangria in the colours of Ireland

1 Litre – Difficulty: easy
Preparation 10 min – Chilling time 2 hours

  • 1 bottle of Pinot Gris (white wine)
  • 30 cl of “Midori” melon or mint liqueur
  • an apple
  • a lime
  • a cucumber
  • mint leaves

Start by emptying the bottle of Pinot Gris into a large container or pitcher. Then add 30 centilitres of mint liqueur. Then cut the apple, lemon and cucumber into strips. Add them to the wine and finish with the mint leaves. Keep in the fridge for 2 hours to serve it chilled.
